Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 3 was a monumental game and update. It built on the foundation Epic Games created and continued the progress of one of the best game on the market. When Season 4 was announced, fan expectations were high.
Would they destroy the game? Would they make a bunch of wonderful changes?
Questions that should rock the mind of anyone who’s become obsessed with the game. Traveling the ravaged Earth in search of materials, guns and other players is just about the best experience you can get. FOR FREE. So for Epic to continue expanding the game is a testament to the love and care they have for it. So just what did they change? Quite a few things, actually. The map has updates, the brand new skins are killer and there’s a whole new power(?!) to be found.
However, building the new sometimes takes tearing down the old. So it makes sense that the meteor that we’ve all been waiting for wreaked havoc on the world. So first things first, what’s left?
The Meteor crashed into Dusty Depot and leveled the place! How exciting. Luckily, it only managed to destroy one of the hangars. Leaving a massive crater that now contains more than a few surprises. This is now, by far, the most popular landing spot in the game. So don’t be surprised if you end up gunned down soon after you land. But it’s a fun venture when you get there.
The Government has clearly found something. A research site surrounds the darkened meteor. An entire lab has been set up around the area! A brand new battleground that is now named the Dusty Divot. The area has a new item that is sure to delight fans of the game.
Risky Reels is a brand new area that has been teased in the trailers for this Season. A Drive-In Movie Theater that looks just as spooky as the rest of this Earth battleground!
Many areas of the game were damaged by the arriving meteor shower. Some of those sites are now surrounded by mysterious items that somehow grant the players powers…
These brand new items are the new must-have in the world of Fornite. Just what makes these glowing rocks so special? Well, they work something like Fizzy Lifting Drink from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. If you “search” the blue rocks, your avatar will be infused with the powers of the meteor!
No, you won’t die. No, you won’t be invincible. But your character will be able to jump higher and slower as the rocks grant the player a low-gravity ability. The first time you get your hands on one of these, expect it to be way too much fun to enjoy a proper game. Get your kicks by jumping around as much as you can before figuring out how to perfectly utilize the “hop rocks” in your armada.
Zoey, Valor and Omega are just a few of the Skins Epic has added for Season 4. They might not be as jaw-dropping as some of the skins from Season 3, but this just started! Epic will absolutely be rolling out more awesome skins over time. As of right now, it’s great that they’re continuing to make colorful and themed skins.
Clearly, Science Fiction and Superhero movies are getting some more representation this season. Let’s hope this trend continues.
One of the coolest mechanics of Season 4 may be the simplest. Emotes are one of the more expressive parts of the game. A fun way to give your foes a thumbs up or your teammates a signal. Now, you can use it to tag your own part of the world!
As Epic describes the sprays in their recent Patch Notes about Season 4 as a way to, “Leave your mark on the world. Tag your fort. Make an impact!” It probably won’t help make you feel any more significant or legendary. But it’s an awesome way to express yourself in the game!
Aside from the ole Dusty Depot, the only thing to get the axe was the Crossbow. Who knows if the seemingly ineffectual weapon will make its way back into the game. A few people have managed to get kills with it, at least. Right?
Regardless, Season 4 ushered in the perfect amount of changes to Fortnite: Battle Royale. No one wanted this boat rocked. Season 3 was doing just fine and helped to make this a refined, top-tier game that occupies thousands and thousands of player’s time. That’s no small feat.
But Epic Games went ahead and did something better. Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 4 makes the perfect additions without subtracting anything useful. It didn’t change the mechanics of the game; it didn’t make the map unrecognizable. Epic Games just doubled down on creating one of funnest games out right now and gave it an upgrade.
Hopefully, they can keep this up for a few more Seasons!
